Catholics are not a monolithic group - particularly American Catholics. The recent posturing and high visibility of Catholics and Catholic clergy in the Schiavo case may lead you to think otherwise.

Please remember those in the Church who have fought for justice, peace, and compassion and pay the price - mockery, sanctions, prison, and even death.  

They are the reason why many of us still think of ourselves as Catholic.  They are the ones who are the real examples of the teachings of Jesus.  For those of you who wonder how many of us can remain in a Church that offers so much that is wrong, I offer their names as proof that there is also much that is right.
